TDI Sidemount Course
The TDI Sidemount Diver course is designed to introduce divers to an alternative equipment configuration where tanks are mounted at the sides of the body instead of on the back. Originally developed for cave and technical diving, sidemount has become increasingly popular among recreational divers for its increased comfort, stability, and streamlined profile underwater.
The course will be conducted in the beautiful cenotes of the Riviera Maya, including sites like Garden of Eden and others just 20 minutes south of Playa del Carmen, offering an immersive experience in calm, clear water ideal for skill development.
Course Topics Include:
Introduction to sidemount diving philosophy and benefits
Equipment configuration and gear setup for sidemount
Gas management using independent cylinders
Buoyancy control, trim, and efficient propulsion techniques
Valve handling, regulator switching, and emergency procedures
Streamlining for confined and overhead environments
Planning and executing sidemount dives
Course Structure:
Academic Sessions: Covering sidemount diving theory, equipment adjustment, gas management, and dive planning
Confined Water Training: Focused on buoyancy control, trim, equipment handling, and basic propulsion techniques
Open Water Dives: Typically 3 dives in cenotes, emphasizing skill refinement, problem-solving, and a fun cavern dive to apply what you’ve learned
Prerequisites:
Minimum age: 15 years old
Minimum certification: Open Water Diver
Minimum of 25 logged dives
Certification Outcome:
This course does not involve staged decompression or the use of high-oxygen mixes, but it is an excellent preparation for future training such as TDI Advanced Nitrox & Decompression Procedures, and Cavern.
