
Deep Diver Speciality Course
The SDI Deep Diver course is the way to expand your depth limits and give you the skills, knowledge, and confidence to dive safely beyond recreational depths. This specialty course focuses on planning and executing dives up to 40 meters/130 feet, while managing the additional risks and considerations of deep diving.
The course will be done in cenotes and ocean dive sites around Playa del Carmen, offering ideal conditions and impressive depth profiles for training in real-world environments.
Course Topics Include:
Effects of increased pressure and gas narcosis at depth
Dive planning, gas management, and air consumption calculations
Proper descent/ascent procedures and safety stops
Emergency planning and redundant air source use
Use of dive computers and backup timing devices
Environmental considerations and depth navigation
Psychological aspects of deep diving and situational awareness
Course Structure:
Academic Sessions: Covering deep diving theory, physiological effects, safety procedures, and gas planning
Open Water Dives: Typically 3 dives conducted progressively deeper, with a maximum depth of 40 meters/130 feet
Prerequisites:
Minimum age: 18 years old
Minimum certification: SDI Advanced Adventure Diver (or equivalent)
Minimum of 25 logged dives recommended
Certification Outcome:
Upon successful completion, divers will earn the SDI Deep Diver certification, allowing them to plan and conduct dives to a maximum depth of 40 meters/130 feet. This course is an essential step for divers interested in technical diving, wreck diving, or exploring deeper sites safely. Recommended follow up courses include TDI Sidemount Diver, and TDI Intro to Tech.
