The Pit and Nicte Ha Cenotes

Cenotes The Pit & Nicte Ha

The Pit, like the name suggests, is a deep cenote that cuts into the heart of the jungle floor. It’s located near the Dos Ojos, and one of the best dives on the Yucatan peninsula. The pit is known for its clear water, and rich underwater cave system. In the middle of the cenote is a hydrogen cloud and tree branches may poke out, but don’t be fooled because The Pit continues down past this point. Continuing your adventure into the depths you’ll be met with beams of sunlight trapped between the stalagmites and stalactites which line the caves. A vertigo feeling is almost impossible to avoid, as you float ethereally in a hall of limestone walls. This dive site is located 45km south of Playa del carmen and 15km north of Tulum. At the entrance of the property, you’ll be met with friendly Mayan staff, and after an 8-minute drive you’ll be at the dive site. This euphoric dive is truly one for the bucket list.

In contrast with the otherworldly beauty of The Pit, Cenote Nicte Ha is a lush underwater garden. It is a smaller cenote filled with a Lilypad garden and lush underwater vegetation teeming with marine life. Sunlight hits the water, glinting from the scales of the schools of angelfish and colourful parrot fish which live in this underwater ecosystem. From there you can explore the cenote’s cavern system home to turtles, eels and even the occasional crocodile. This cenote also contains a halocline, where salt and non-saltwater meet making this dive sight a stunning area to capture in photography.

This package is a wonderful opportunity for divers to explore some of the most beautiful and hard to reach places in the world. These dives are cavern dives, meaning that they are not well suited for beginner divers and can require specific training and equipment. This package is for those who are ready to take their diving up a notch, and to witness some of the most stunning sights the world of diving has to offer.
